Founded in 1903, Shrewsbury House – known locally as The Shewsy – is a long-established youth charity based in Everton, Liverpool. Operating as an open-access, full-time youth club, it has built a strong reputation as a centre of excellence. The organisation supports local young people through a wide range of initiatives, including after-school clubs, hot meals, recreational activities, and residential experiences, all designed to enrich lives and strengthen the community.
With ambitions to become the North West’s leading youth provision, The Shewsy set out to further its mission of helping young people grow, achieve, and reach their full potential. Central to this vision is creating a safe, welcoming environment that nurtures confidence, skills, ambition, and personal development.
In 2025, newly appointed CEO Vicki Parker recognised the need to build on the charity’s strong legacy by increasing its visibility and reach. A key priority was the development of a modern, high-performing website to support three critical objectives:
• Increase donations to sustain and expand services
• Recruit volunteers to support programmes and events
• Raise awareness among local families about available opportunities
The existing digital presence did not fully reflect the vibrancy, impact, or importance of The Shewsy’s work, making a redesign essential.
The new website was designed to reflect the energy, warmth, and inclusivity of a children’s charity. Key design and functionality considerations included:
Visual Identity: Bright, primary colours paired with a handwritten typeface to convey friendliness and approachability
User Experience: Clear, intuitive navigation with key information – such as timetables – easily accessible
Engagement & Conversion: Strategically placed calls-to-action (CTAs) to encourage donations and volunteer sign-ups
Impact Communication: Custom infographics to quickly illustrate the charity’s measurable impact
Performance & Reach: Full SEO optimisation and integration of social media feeds to enhance discoverability and engagement
The result was a dynamic, user-focused platform that effectively communicates both the mission and the tangible outcomes of The Shewsy’s work.
Although not initially part of the project scope, a refreshed logo became a natural conclusion. Following a site visit and photoshoot, the design team drew inspiration from the centre’s authentic environment – particularly its abundance of youth-created artwork, murals, and graffiti.
A distinctive graffiti-inspired element informed the new logo, creating a visual identity that feels both contemporary and rooted in the charity’s heritage. This approach ensured immediate recognition while celebrating the creativity of the young people it serves. The logo also established a bold, vibrant colour palette that carried through the wider brand.
To complement the website, an annual Impact Report brochure was developed. This document showcased powerful stories and real-life outcomes from the charity’s work, reinforcing credibility and emotional connection with stakeholders.
The brochure was made available as a downloadable PDF via the website and also professionally printed for wider distribution, ensuring accessibility across both digital and physical channels.
