Anne Takes On Tough Mudder For An Amazing Cause
Last weekend our senior web designer Anne and a group of friends took on the epic challenge of the Tough Mudder half to help raise money for an amazing cause that is very close to her heart. She waded through mud, tackled obstacles, climbed up, over, under and through all sorts and despite her nerves had an amazing time and is already signed up for next year! She made it to the end, her clothes however may never be mud free again...
This was a huge challenge for Anne and the rest of the Tough Mudder team, however there are people facing far greater challenges every day who have no choice in the matter. Anne and friends decided to take on this challenge in support of their friend Nicola Murrells. This is Nicola's story:
Cancer affects so many of us. It does not discriminate.
I have been fighting cancer now for 4 years. Last year (Oct 16) I was told I had 9 weeks to live as my liver was riddled with tumours. Those tumours have stabilised due to pioneering treatment and I have beaten my 9 weeks, it's now April 2017. On Friday the 28th April I was told I am back to having 6 months to live as the cancer has spread to my brain, and I now have 3 tumours there.
This means that I leave behind a little five year old girl who is my world.
I don't want another family, another mother/father to have to go through this heartbreaking ordeal.
I want to raise as much money as I can through various events to help The Royal Marsden pioneer new life saving non toxic treatments. I want immunotherapy to become the norm, rather than pumping toxic solutions into ourselves and then wondering why parts of our body are collapsing or not coping.
Let's give cancer patients a life and a way to actually live.
Sadly, Nicola lost her fight with cancer in this last week. However, that only makes it more important to continue to raise money to carry on her legacy, fund this incredibly important research and help others in the future.
If you would like to donate, you can go to Nicola's Just Giving page here.
Everyone at W&C is super proud of Anne for taking on Tough Mudder and raising money for this amazing lady. It sounds like it was a brilliant day, despite the rain!
Might you see the whole W&C team taking part next year?! Silence in the office...
